Linking Europe Competition
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the prestigious European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, Vueling and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe announced the “Linking Europe Competition”, an event which sought to support young talents offering them the chance to turn one of their designs into a reality.
The contest, on the theme “The Construction of Europe through Cities and Culture”, was open to students of architecture, engineering, design and art from over 800 European universities.
In order to take part in the competition, students had to send their proposals through www.linkingeuropecompetition.com.
An international jury appointed five finalists and a winner, evaluating the consistency of the projects with the theme of the competition, the quality of the design, the originality and the power of the resulting image.
The best proposals selected by the jury can be seen in the publication. The winning proposal has become a reality, as a customized design of this Vueling airplane will be criss-crossing the skies for the next few months.
Congratulations to the winners, thanks to everyone who took part and happy Vueling to all our passengers!

“We still keep wondering why people travel. The simplest answer we would give is because of their intellectual curiosity towards other cultures. However if we continue asking questions about this topic, we arrive at the conclusion that the most valuable attraction for tourists are monuments. Indeed, our A320 is covered in the silhouettes of monuments in the various European capitals and major Spanish cities.
The silhouettes have the same tone and are placed side by side to emphasize that Europe is unified by its variety and diversity.
The yellow of the background recalls the colour of the Vueling airline. As it concerns the graphic representation of the monuments we were inspired by the Fundació logo.”
